April 10, 2010: Where'd I Go?: The Tail of a Mysterious Tiny New Stranger
![]()
I think there's something behind me...
Beloved readers! I did not mean to abandon you! I know, I haven't blogged in months and it's a TRAVESTY! I'm sorry! It's not my fault! I swear, I would be here every day blogging if I didn't need Tui's help, and the problem is that Tui has been terribly terribly busy with a SHOCKING NEW DEVELOPMENT which has taken over the entire household.
BEHOLD:
Why is this happening to me?
YES. Can you believe it? My people brought home a NEW PUPPY. At least, I assume it's a puppy. Tui keeps calling it a baby (as in: "Look at the adorable baby! Who's the cutest baby? Eeeee, look, the baby is being hilarious! Have you ever seen a more amazing baby?" and SO ON AD NAUSEUM), but as far as I can tell, it's small like a puppy (smaller than me!), it gurgles and snorts and makes funny noises like a puppy, and it has to be carried around and snuggled like a puppy, so clearly it is a puppy. Even if it apparently cannot be rolled on and chased around like other puppies. Which just means it's a puppy that needs training.
I cannot say that I approve of the new puppy.![]()
I mean, seriously.
And the new puppy arrived under extremely suspicious circumstances, too. First, Tui ate like a whale and slept like a hibernating bear for nine months. Then my grandpawrents suddenly showed up with Maui and our visiting friend Mimi.![]()
Mimi! Even shaggier than me!
And then Tui told me she'd be back in an hour and went off to a doctor's appointment. And then she didn't come back! For DAYS! And neither did Adam! I was left all alone with my grandpawrents and these two crazy dogs. AND THEN...OLIVER SHOWED UP.
IT'S ME! YAHOOOO!
As if things weren't befuddling enough! He came with Kari and Steve, of course, so we had the entire pack here except for Tui and Adam, and WHAT was that all about? MOST suspicious! Mysterious goings-on for days and days!
And then, fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinally, my own people-parents came home...with this:![]()
I beg your pardon.
And it's all been very baffling and baby-centric and impossible to blog ever since!
Apparently this new puppy is an extremely important new member of the pack, judging from all the attention he gets. And he doesn't seem to be going anywhere. We keep getting oodles of visitors, which is very exciting because it means more laps for me to sit in when Tui's is full of new puppy, and I keep thinking the visitors will take the new puppy with them when they leave -- the way Maui and Oliver usually go home when I'm done playing with them.
But NO. Evidently this new puppy is HERE TO STAY. So I have to put up with him, and since he is clearly so incapable of taking care of himself, I've decided it's my job to guard him.![]()
MINE new puppy
Meanwhile, I'm trying to look on the bright side:
(1) Lots of visitors! And only one of them can hold the new puppy at a time, so then the others sometimes pay attention to me. Sometimes I even get to sit on Tui's lap again while other people coo at the new puppy. Bonus!
(2) The new puppy hasn't gone anywhere near my food or my toys. I'm sure this is a sign of respect, which certain other dogs ought to take a lesson from.![]()
What? Who, me? I didn't do it!
(3) At least the new puppy is smaller than me.
I'm sure those last two aren't going to change. Right? So I don't have anything to worry about. Right?
Hmmmmmmm...![]()
He does look suspiciously bigger this week...ruh-roh...
So that's what's been happening here -- but it means I have lots of excellent emails to respond to, so I promise to work on that! Just as soon as Tui's hands are free again...and if we're not all sleeping instead...
New puppies can be very tiring...
Happy tails,
Sunshine! :-)
